Turkey Shoot

ShootingLine

Our first turkey shoot was a big success. We had about 60 shooters, novice and experienced, young and old, guys and gals. Larry Ayers started it out by welcoming everyone and running down the safety rules for us. To drive home the point, a couple of young men fired the first shots at two unsuspecting watermelons, demonstrating what a stray shot can do to a body.

We had a total of four trap throwers set up. Trap number two was reserved for beginner shooters and saw a lot of activity. Several brave young girls fired a shotgun for the first time and were helped along by friends and dads. Watchers cheered as the girls hit thier first pigeon.

Thanks to the men who gladly loaned their expertise, guns, and shells to give these newbies a chance to try the sport out.

In the picture below you can see our fearless (and I mean that - the guy is nearly fearless) leader Todd giving it a go. Unfortunately, two out of ten is just not going to win any awards. Sorry, Todd. Better luck next time.

To the guys from GSCC who showed up to run the trap throwers, take the stats, help setup and teardown, and do all the other things it took to make this happen, we offer up a hearty thank you.  Let's do it again soon!

Chad and Sturgeon Minimize

Our second fishing trip with the club was awesome for all except Scott who got seasick ;). It was a bit dangerous out there on the Columbia as there were some huge rollers. We first started out catching chad for bait and knocked 'em dead. After that we caught four oversized sturgeon. As you can see from the picture, we were able to take a few little guys with us this time. We had a great time. Thanks to Jon Ball and Greg Decker for being great captains.

Our First Fishing Trip! Minimize

CrossTrackers first fishing trip was a great success! On April 14th, the crew fished for spring salmon on the Columbia. As you can see from the pictures, it was a very productive trip. Thanks to Jon for all his hard work organizing and leading the trip.

What others had to say:

Just wanted to say Thank You for a great trip! We shared a lot of laughs, got a real time anchoring lesson and brought 9 fish ( I think) to the 3 boats. Three fisherman landed their 1st springer and the one I brought home was only my third so thanks to Jon, Brian and the 3rd boat owner(didn't get his name) for sharing their time and resources. It was an opportunity that I would not have otherwise been able to experience.

Thanks for a great day on the water yesterday!!! Thanks also to Jon Ball and the other boat drivers for making the trip possible. Five keepable springers and a native or two is not bad, and that was just on Jon's boat! I must say, I could have dressed a little warmer, but I loved every moment of the trip. I really needed the stress relief and the fellowship. It was like medicine!
